Maybe Bad was overanalyzing everything, maybe this is what most people do to make sure their friends are okay, but a part of him couldn't help but think otherwise. He honestly forgot that he was bleeding, he was so entranced by his best friend.

Skeppy's eyes widened at that. A quiet part of his brain wanted to truly test that limit. It was screaming at him to push a little, to throw Bad off base. "Anything?"
"I mean.. Yeah?" Bad narrowed his eyes, recognizing the other man's goading tone instantly. "Maybe if you gave me like, a random stick you found and just claimed it was a gift I wouldn't love it but I'd like the sentiment of a gift, ya know? I feel like even with—"
"What if I gave you a kiss?"
Bad stopped his long winded explanation, mouth going agape at Skeppy's suggestion. "I— I mean.. You— What?" he sputtered hopelessly, eyes wide and confused.

The phrase turned over and over in Skeppy’s mind, stripping away every defense he had. For two years, he had worn the armor of the tease, the instigator, the guy who could brush off anything with a laugh. But that sentence didn’t bounce off. It sank straight through him, cold and paralyzing, hitting the exact raw nerve he had been trying to protect all week.
“Right,” Skeppy managed to get out, his voice sounding hollow, like it belonged to someone else entirely. “Yeah. I guess I am.”

He didn’t want to hear the backpedaling. He didn’t want the half-hearted damage control or the quiet, pleading sighs. The truth was out there now, naked and ugly, sitting right on the table. If being with him, if loving him, was a chore - if it felt like running uphill through wet cement - then why were they torturing themselves?
