“Well, this is the game. It is remarkably simple. You just have to steal Merlin’s neckerchief.” Immediately, complaints erupted from the knights.
“The neckerchief? He always wears it!”
“How are we supposed to steal it?”
“Merlin never takes it off for some reason — no way I’m going to risk my life and find out why!”
“Silence!” Arthur stared at the group, incredulous. “My knights, the most feared in the five realms, are terrified of my manservant?” They hung their heads in shame. “Even a squire probably could nick it off the idiot!”
“Is the squire still alive?” said a knight under his breath. Around him, his fellow brethren nodded their agreement, avoiding Arthur’s eye as he snorted.
“Merlin can be scary, Sire,” tried Lancelot. Arthur still looked like he seriously disagreed with the statement but after seeing the effect one pathetic coward had on a score of knights, he was forced to accept that yes, the Knights of Camelot feared Merlin the Buffoon.
Or 5 times Arthur gets blindsided by Merlin's ingenuity to stop the heists involving his neckerchief and 1 time Merlin gives up.

Summary
In Camelot, everyone thinks Lancelot and Merlin are sneaking around because they're secretly in love. But really, they're teaming up to fight a dark sorcerer threatening the kingdom. They don't even know about the rumors until someone tells them. To keep Merlin's magic a secret, they play along with the gossip and accidentally start developing real feelings. While everyone is obsessed with their supposed romance, they completely miss the dark sorcerer Merlin is battling right under their noses. Lancelot is just there to support Merlin through it all.

The door crashed open, startling Lancelot enough that he knocked the armor onto the floor with a clatter. He opened one eye, unsurprisingly finding Merlin to be the cause of mayhem. Cheeks red and eyes dancing over his lopsided smile, Merlin practically bounced over to the bed. “Lance,” he said elatedly, “the river’s frozen.”
Lancelot stared up at him in confusion, lifting one eyebrow.
“Just come,” Merlin ordered, exasperated. He gathered the remaining pieces of armor off Lancelot and tossed them aside without care.
“Mer—” Lancelot started, about to chide his friend for his carelessness, but Merlin cut him off.
“Come ON."
Fluffy one-shot in which Lancelot is the best friend on earth.
