Steve Harrington gets tired of everyone asking why he's still single.
So he does what any reasonable person would do.
He lies.
His boyfriend's name is Eddie. He lives in Ohio. He has long curly hair, brown eyes, wears leather jackets, plays guitar, drives a van, and works with his uncle. Completely made up. Entirely fictional.
Until a few weeks later, when a guy matching that exact description moves to Hawkins.
His name, of course, is Eddie.
And somehow, Steve's imaginary boyfriend is suddenly standing in front of him, very real, very confused... and strangely willing to play along. -

"W-What?"
"Plans, they change," Eddie smiled, and it was a new smile, different from the previous ones. "Look, I’m not going to lie to you. Five kids is… actually, it’s a hell of a lot. Eddie swipes the wand beneath his eye, fast and mostly smooth. He leans back from the mirror, assessing his reflection, and smudges lightly at the ink.
“One down,” he says, mostly to himself. Steve doesn’t say anything.
He’s thinking about girls at their bathroom mirrors and bedroom vanities. Dates or one night stands or whoever else, messing with their hair and poking at their lipstick and making faces. Fixing whatever Steve had made a mess of the night before.

The words hung in the air, absurd and laced with deadly urgency. Eddie froze, his mouth falling open in total disbelief. His eyebrows shot up, nearly disappearing beneath his unruly bangs. He looked at Nancy, then at Steve—who had also opened his eyes wide despite the pain—and then back at Nancy. Robin, from the background, let out a choked sound, a gasp of surprise.
"What?" Eddie managed, a disbelieving, nervous laugh catching in his throat. He shook his head, curls bouncing. "Are you shitting me, Wheeler? No way in hell am I licking Harrington."
