It was supposed to be his day off. Besides a brief sparring session with Captain Wesker planned for the late afternoon, his schedule was fully open to do with as he pleased, which in this case was supposed to mean greasy takeout, The X-Files re-runs, and a long, hot shower with no interruptions.
It could never be that simple.

Summary
This was a piece inspired by 2am thoughts when coming up for a new painting idea. Imagining Wesker peering through the blinds of his office and meeting the eyes of those who remain ignorant of the imminent betrayal. But what if for those tiny, insignificant moments Wesker 'felt something'. What if the small gesture of a gift weighed so heavy even he couldn't ignore its meaning. What if the gift was given sooner? Would it or could it have changed his mind about the future? Could the future even be changed?
Below is what I wrote that accompanied the completed painting and a link to said image! (I'm new to formatting so forgive the basic layout and boomer links)
He watched their smiles as they went about their duties. A team knit together by camaraderie and loyalty. Unknowing and ignorant. A wave of doubt passed him by as kind eyes met his through the blinds before he slinked back into the dim of his subterfuge.Bookmarked by MeoShepherd

Cold.
That was the only word that rang in his mind as he came to in the suffocating small space. The cold was inside him like it never planned to leave, set deep into his bones and making him shiver uncontrollably.
As he slowly stumbles out of the broken cryopod, ready to fight, he’s confused to find the Umbrella facility completely empty.
No matter. He doesn’t have time for any of this. He needs to contact his team by any means possible and stop them from being deployed to the Arklay Mountains anyway. Everything else can come later.
He will make sure the Arklay mission doesn't end with his team's bloodshed.
...
He doesn't know yet that the world has no place for Albert Wesker anymore.

Wesker isn’t a god though, certainly not in Chris’s eyes. But the placement works if it must - there’s something irrecoverably religious about falling for Wesker. Of course - suffering feels religious if you do it right; that’s how the saying goes. The old wound carved by the end of Wesker’s gun still draws near as Chris bites hard on his bottom lip, tasting blood and wine and melting into the hushed gasp Wesker lets out.

Chris Redfield thought he'd finally buried Albert Wesker.
Instead, he finds him alive.
Imprisoned inside a BSAA-funded research facility and forced to continue the research that made him too valuable to lose, someone needs to be willing to stay in a room with a man who insists on ensuring the failure of each person unlucky enough to step through those doors. After exhausting every other option, the facility settles on the only person they believe might survive him: Chris Redfield.
What begins as an attempt to understand the man who betrayed him and to make peace with years of unresolved grief slowly becomes something neither of them was prepared to confront.
Chris thought he would just be looking for the point where his Captain ended and Albert Wesker began.
Wesker thought he already understood Chris.
They were both wrong.
