Vergil often leaves his Yamato to Dante for some short amount of time. He trusts his little brother could keep it secure while he was away for at least an hour maximum, such as going grocery shopping at a nearby mini market, going to the shower to freshen up, or even busing himself reading some William Blake poems he usually does during leisure time.
What he didn't know was that Dante had other plans to use the katana for when he's not around to supervise...
