They were standing close, and while it was Wei Wuxian who was leaning in and laughing, there was a shy smile on the face of the clearly more timid alpha.

    Behind him, sitting by his desk, Lan Xichen continued, “He seems to be of the mindset that our lineage is in danger, should we not get married soon.”

    “’Yes.’” Lan Sizhui’s fingers stilled for a moment, perhaps surprised for having gotten an answer after all. He then asked, “Why?”

    As the spirit replied in music, the Lans in the room started frowning slightly, clearly confused.

    ’Two of you have committed wrongdoing’,” the junior said, his concern evident. “What wrongdoing?”

    The notes turned even sharper, though the response was short. Immediately, Wei Wuxian could tell there was something off about it. Lan Zhan stiffened, and the kids’ eyes widened, their faces reddening. Lan Sizhui, who was blushing furiously, played the same notes again, as if making sure he’d heard right.

    Lan Wangji, generally speaking, did not make note of people. Of course there were exceptions, once faced with special kindness or distaste, but most often others left an imprint so light that it would fade from his mind in only a few days, if not minutes.

    He didn’t feel right in his skin for the rest of the day after meeting Wei Wuxian.
