An eerie silence followed him, as he made his way down the path. He couldn’t hear the faint hiss of spiders crawling around, nor was there the faint crunch of grass that held the tell-tale sign of a shade out to ambush.
He kept catching himself keeping an ear out for a second pair of footsteps trailing right behind him; or maybe the sound of her voice chatting his ear off, chastising him over something stupid he did– only for his new reality to sink in a moment later.
It was strange, being alone again, after several months of being around people. It used to be that the chaos of the kingdoms was overwhelming; with all their noises, their touches, their scents. After eons in nothingness, being blasted with sensations was... a lot. But... in good way.
He got comfortable. Too comfortable.

OR: Marmalade escaped Limbo. Avid was left behind.
Despite it all, they do have one thing in common: either way, they're both alone. And neither of them are coping well with that fact.

Summary
DESCRIBED: A desk. It is perfectly built and perfectly average, made out of birch wood. Simple, clean, effective. On the desk is an open deck of cards, neatly stacked, a lamp with a cubed shade, and a few pages of paper, with a pen laying perpendicular atop.
Behind the desk is a chair, currently filled by Office of Sky Safety and Hazard Assessment head, Avid, in his perfectly ironed and fitted work uniform. There is no last name. It doesn’t matter, he’s the only one who can sign the paperwork, so his boss won’t care if there’s a bit of legal information missing there. His boss only cares that the paper makes its way back.
At OSSHA Headquarters, Avid does some paperwork.

He never thought he’d be back here again.
No, scratch that– he never wanted to be back here again. It was the last thing he wanted, actually, to the point he gave away nearly everything just to escape it.
But things never really tend to go his way, now, do they?
Avid’s one solace is that they weren’t technically in Limbo, right now, but instead a small pocket of the void that doesn’t seem to want to tear you apart, particle by particle. It still wasn’t the greatest, not by a long shot, but at least he felt like he could breathe...

OR: Marmalade had dragged Avid down into the void, bringing him right in front of... that door. Sharing his story with her was fairly draining, but at least that was the worst of this... right?
(OR: What would happen if Marm and Avid couldn’t leave Limbo?)
