    Summary

Arthur’s recovery isn’t instant, when he stops projecting. It takes him a moment to collect himself. John feels it, too. The unfamiliar weakness in his borrowed limbs when he resettles into them. The drain on them both when their tether is stretched too thin.

But surely, once they separate fully, it’ll be different. Right?

    Summary

They look at each other for too long. Something in the air smells weird, and the inside of Noel’s mouth is dry and salty; he’s been asleep for too long. He could use a coffee, but he doesn’t know if that’s an option right now.

Bizarrely, Oscar asks, “How are you?”

    Summary

Amidst the tendrils of silky vines tightening around his throat, chest, and thighs, Arthur Lester softly cries, bloody tears pouring out of his eyes. There is nothing but blackness and pain when he tugs his left hand free with the last ounce of his strength, and he feels it when one of the vines stabs straight through his palm. It isn't the pain, but the absence that draws another whimpering cry out of him.

“John,” he groans, barely realizing the sound until it comes out of him. The vine pushes further through his hand against the wall of material that now encompasses him. It digs deeper, the tendril widening the gash as it gets thicker, as if to taunt him with the absence sitting heavy in his chest.

“John!” he yells, into an empty room.

The silence that echoes back is almost worse than the memory of the dream.

    He's sleeping, Arthur.
