“Ed?” he asks again, “can you not speak?”
Ed’s chest tightens. Stede’s found the answer… And yet he doesn’t seem mad.
He nods his head a little, maybe only twice. It’s all he can manage without the clenchy, shaking fists coming out. He has no idea what Stede’s response will be.
“Oh, that’s okay.” Stede smiles and Ed wasn’t expecting that. “I can’t speak sometimes too. I go silent, just like this.” Ed definitely wasn’t expecting that.
