In a quiet, rainy-day setting before Wednesday Addams has entered the picture, Principal Larissa Weems and Marilyn Thornhill settle onto a comfortable living room sofa to watch over Enid. Tucked into an oversized pastel hoodie and resting in a toddler-aged headspace, a timid Enid chooses to stay on the safe floor rather than join the adults on the couch.
When a faint noise from the hallway startles Enid into thinking "squeaky-shoe monsters" are outside, Marilyn quickly distracts her with a brand-new puppy coloring book and a box of glitter crayons. As Enid happily shifts her focus to coloring the wolf pages, Weems notes a strange presence at the threshold, which Marilyn dismisses as a routine greenhouse delivery.
