Chassepot is a level headed gentleman, charming and polite. On the battlefield, he leaves no quarters to his enemies and yet, he’s not ruthless. He’s strong, performing better than his direct competitor, Dreyse, as well as elegant, loyal and dependable.
Thing is, none of those attributes seem positive in the eyes of his Master. In their eyes, he’s dull. Boring, annoying, overbearing… He gets in the way of their fun, he’s too needy, he fights like a wimp, he looks like a porcelain doll. He’s not a perfect, endearing prince. He’s a bother. Something they don’t want to deal with.
