It was Donnie's idea to come scavenge for all of his broken (useless) tech, but now he's just standing here staring at the scattered vestiges of what is essentially his life's work. All the time designing and building weapons, and for what? The Shredder tore through all of it like paper. Donnie put on a battle shell to come out, even though Leo told him not to because of the bruising, and it's starting to hurt. It suddenly feels like it's weighing him down, like his legs might collapse underneath him any second, and he can't move.
"Donnie?" Mikey leans into his line of sight, looking worried. He grabs Donnie's arm and gives it a little shake, and Donnie's arm moves limply. "Are you stuck?"
Donnie spends a good minute trying to get his mouth to work, "Y-yes."
/Donnie hyperfixates on a thing (as one does) and gives himself a panic attack. Allegedly.

The chant took on a life of its own, picking up speed and volume as it went. The words carried in the open air, up into the sky. Anyone looking down on the roof of the Mystery Shack would have seen the fog of ten people’s breath, ten warm bodies pushing out air into a frozen world and laughing as they did so. There’s a feeling that comes sometimes when people are together and happy in the cold, a certainty that your exhalations can warm the whole universe.
Some New Years that weren't worth celebrating, some that were, and one that felt like magic.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it turns out to be impossible for a disgraced and single ex-attorney to get approved to adopt a child he only met two weeks ago. He's not sure why he thought that would work.
A couple might have a chance, though. Especially if half of the couple is a prosecutor with good standing and deep pockets. Isn't that what friendship is all about? Getting (platonically) legally married, moving in together, co-adopting an eight-year-old, and keeping it all a secret?
