Summary

“What?” the blonde asks.
“Captain America?” Bucky gestures to the front cover again with the photo of the iconic red, white, and blue shield.
“Oh, yeah I guess,” the blonde replies. Bucky can tell this was the wrong thing to say the way the blonde is hesitating and wonders whether he should shut up now and forever.

No one outside of the Avengers knows that Steve Rogers is a superhero. Everyone can see Bucky Barnes is barely staying afloat after returning home from war. They meet in the library when they’re both looking for the same book about Captain America.

“Oh, hell no, don’t call him that, man,” Sam warned.
“Captain Fuck Off!” Barnes shouted over him. “Fight me!”
Steve didn’t know whether to laugh or just slink away. He managed to combine the two by pacing two steps and snorting instead. Like a bull.
“I’m gonna need you to calm your ass, Barnes,” Sam said as he went limp again, obstructing Barnes’s struggling under him. “This is so undignified. That is Captain goddamn America.”
“Captain goddamn America!” Barnes repeated, louder. And angrier.
Steve cleared his throat again. “I’ve been looking for you,” he told Barnes.
“I hope you brought lube this time!” Barnes shouted.

Summary
Bucky, a freelance operative: codename Winter Soldier, has been working with the Avengers on the regular, which was great, he loved the extra cash, could hone skills he’d picked up in the army and no-one cared about his metal arm. Best of all he got to work with Captain America, a man out of time whose identity is shrouded in secret, which made having a big fat crush on him problematic, since no one knew the Winter Soldiers identity either. But this doesn't stop Bucky being drawn to Cap in a way he’d never felt before.
So it’s a surprise when Natasha drops off a small injured mystery man 'Grant' to him for protection and to patch up, that he finds himself utterly taken with the snarky man. Feelings he couldn’t work out as Grant was the worst patient, stubborn as hell and pushed Bucky’s buttons in all the wrong (and right) ways. He needed to figure out who Grant was, and what he had to do with SHIELD before he either killed or kissed him stupid.
Throw in Hydra’s infestation of SHIELD, unsanctioned science experiments, being hunted and keeping identities secret, all while trying not to fall helplessly in love with a man who had more secrets than the Pyramids. Bucky’s simple life was now anything but.

Steve Rogers supposes he’s happy. He’s almost three years out of the ice, living in Avengers Tower, leading ops for Tony Stark and SHIELD and partnering with Nat and Clint (in more ways than one) in a thriving private security side business. But then he meets arrogant tech billionaire James Barnes, and it’s hate at first sight. Barnes is a terrible dickhead; it’s a shame he’s so hot and so good in bed. Steve can’t get him out of his head, and his life is further complicated by a hypercompetent vigilante assassin who almost ruins one of his private security jobs. Who is “the Winter Soldier” and how is he so good? And why does Steve secretly sympathize with his anti-fascist, pro-environment agenda? When Fury calls Steve to DC to protect Project Insight from the Soldier, Steve’s life gets even more complicated. But everything is resolved to everyone’s satisfaction (except the Nazis), with a little spycraft and a lot of explosions along the way.
