Predator recognizes predator. Shan Yu recognizes Mulan's intelligence and the fire that rages in her soul. He sees what she is capable of. And he wants it for himself.
Mulan is taken against her will to live with Shan Yu's people. And yet she finds the Mongolian people are not the horrific monsters the stories made them out to be. The more time she spends with them, the less "home" feels like home. China wants her obedience. The Mongolians want her usefulness. Only Shan Yu asks what she wants.
What she wants challenges everything China drilled into her. It's changing her. And Shan Yu is noticing every transformation.
