    For a moment he’s tempted to spill - to tell Hopper that tonight he dreamt about those fucking tunnels, and that the Demodogs that ran past him in reality barelled straight into him in his dreams, and they leapt on to Dustin first and tore into his guts whilst the kids screamed and wailed above him whilst another Demodog charged headlong towards him—

    “I’m fine, Chief,” Steve says. In the reflection of the window, he can see Hopper has finally taken off his hat. “You know I’m fine, really.”

    Hawkins, Indiana. It's 1985, and it's been four months since they saved the world. But it wasn't enough... closing the Gate wasn't enough. Something's breaching through. Something is fighting to be let loose, and Hawkins - or, more specifically, Steve Harrington - is in some deep shit.

    Steve Harrington was a baldfaced lie. It was a mirage that two desperate people had crafted to save a scared, little boy. It was an easy name - only a letter different from that he’d always known. Steve was designed to be boring. A droll American name, fit to blend into a crowd. It was a name for a child from a wealthy family, another boy to take over his father’s company once he grew of age. Designed to be easy to talk about in a positive light, to be the standard teenager in an ordinary town.
    He played the part rather well. After all, it was better to be the spoilt rich son of an arrogant man, than to be a child with a number etched upon his wrist.

    aka, a rewrite of Stranger Things with Steve as a lab kid. it begins with season one, with plans to finish out the show in season five. featuring: immortality, immorality, and the terrors of Steve escaping a place that would always know to look for him.

    Steve's feet stumbled more than walked, but Hopper didn't care. He half-carried, half-dragged the kid toward the emergency room doors, his jaw clenched so tight it ached. Every step felt like it took too long.

    As the two of them started to slowly stumble to the front of the ER, Hopper took a brief moment to think about it. Took a moment to think how despite everything—despite barely knowing the kid, despite all his preconceptions and assumptions, despite the amount of times Steve had purposefully acted like a smart-ass punk just to piss him off—Hopper had realized something tonight:
