The apartment was too cold. It was cold in the way that it didn’t matter how high the thermostat was or how many blankets you wrapped yourself in, trying to hide from your well meaning mistakes. It crawled under your skin and bit into the muscle making you tense reflexively. It was a cold that had nothing to do with temperature and everything to do with words you couldn’t take back.
Jinx hated being cold.

What really took up most of his thoughts and effort though was his girlfriend, Jinx. It always felt in everything they did she was 3 steps ahead and while he was jogging to catch up, she would barely break a sweat. She could be an absolute menace but she was smart. So incredibly smart and often used that extra brainpower to mess with him. He wasn’t slacking on his end either. Even for how intelligent and mischievous she was, Ekko kept her on her toes. He knew her weak spots as intimately as she knew his. This push and pull in their relationship is what kept them orbiting around each other. Always circling and fascinated to see what the other would do next.
It’s with this in mind that Ekko is curious enough to stop what he’s doing and check his email when he realizes Jinx bought something on their shared Amazon account.
