As Joe walked up the steps, away from the beach and Booker, he turned to look at him once more.
The complete anguish that he saw Sebastien try and hide broke his heart.
What were they doing? How had they come to this decision? How could he be so blinded by anger that he could think that he would be able to leave his Sebastien alone for two centuries? And think that even after a century, he would still be unable to forgive the man that he claimed to love.

He was late. So he sped. Sped along the dirt road in hopes of not making Andromache wait. She’d be upset as it was when she found out the Copley was a repeat, there was no reason to annoy her by making her wait for him.
So he rode his bike. Fast. Till he saw Andy walking up ahead. The tires squealed as he stepped hard on the brake to stop right beside Andy. Underestimating the breaking power of his bike, he ended up a few meters in front of her. He smiled sheepishly to himself and he made a sharp turn. He looked at her, his face expressionless. After a few moments, he allowed his sheepish smile to grow into a grin. Some small comfort to the fact that this was the last mission they’d ever have together.

He hurt. Physically. Which was odd, considering his immortal healing. Nicolo had stuck a knife into his kidney. And Yusuf had gutted him while saying that, that pain was nothing on the hours upon hours of torture that they had gone through. Nicolo had then stepped behind him and snapped his neck.
When he had woken, his hands were bound behind his back and his legs tied to the fence surrounding the safehouse. The knife that Nicolo had buried in him was still there. He felt his body trying to heal around the blade but it couldn’t.
He supposed this was barely a fraction of the pain that they felt.
He wanted to scream for help, but he knew that he deserved this, and whatever else they saw fit as punishment.
Nile came to him in the morning, horrified. She untied him and helped him up while looking at him with a pity that he couldn’t stand.
He couldn’t stand it. He hated it. He didn't want her pity.

He had simultaneously done a lot, and very little in the years apart. He had taught history, french literature, gone to college, again, and even dabbled in interior designing. But those activities were just to fill his days, his nights were still spent drinking and reminiscing and hoping that someone would need him enough to call.

Sebastien collapsed into Nicolo’s chest. The older man did not move. Did not make any attempt to hold him or comfort the visibly distressed man.
“PLEASE!”
Sobs coming out of the tall man were enough to make Nicolo tear. But he still was mad. Furious.
It had barely been five years since they’d left Sebastien next to the reservoir. Five short years. Nicolo’s anger had barely even begun to cool. Fury burned through his veins every time the traitor’s name came up. Yusuf’s anger had calmed, not completely, but he was hardly as angry as he had been when he had pushed for the hundred years of exile.
