Summary
“So… who are you?” Rumi questions the woman in front of her.
Without turning around, the woman answers “Mira,” a tinge of exasperation under it, like that information was somehow obvious. A brief pause, then Mira continues "I'm your new roommate, sweetheart.”
“My what?”
“Your new roommate.” A slight scoff is audible in Mira’s response.
“I have a roommate.” Rumi states.
“Well don’t you catch on fast.” Mira quips back sarcastically. She still hasn’t turned around.
Rumi is exhausted and has been woken up at 3 in the morning and this random individual claiming to be her new roommate is being unhelpful. “No, I mean a preexisting roommate. Her name is Betty.”
“Oh yeah? Where is she?”
“She’s…” Rumi starts. “She’s missing right now.”
Mira finally turns around to look at Rumi. “I see…” Then almost imperceptibly, Mira’s face softens to something unreadable as she eyes Rumi before schooling her expression. She looks around the dorm room mockingly as if searching for Betty. “Well, if you can’t produce this Betty of yours, but you want me to leave?”
