“I trust you,” Marianne says, voice not wavering. “You’ll have to, um, help me with my buttons.”
“Right on,” Shez says, reaching behind Marianne to feel the first of many tiny buttons at the nape of her neck. “I got this.”
Shez does not, in fact, got this. Ten minutes later, Marianne’s only half undone, and Shez is struggling with yet another tiny button at the small of her back. Her fingers keep slipping, and Marianne is being ever so patient as she leans over the side of the bed, allowing Shez room to work.
“It should never take this much work to get someone naked,” Shez complains lightheartedly, letting out a hiss of frustrated joy when she gets the next button undone.

Edelgard looked to what had caught Dorothea’s attention and saw Byleth sauntering toward them. “Hmmmm, and here she comes, never daring to be late for a meeting with her queen.” Edelgard felt her cheeks flush at Dorothea’s insinuating tone.
“She’s simply punctual arriving to a social gathering. She does just the same with you. I have no idea what you’re meaning to say, Thea.”
“Oh of course not.” Dorothea assured, that knowing little grin illuminating her beautiful face as she continued. “Just a simple dinner and show amongst long time friends. Thus you should have nothing to worry about, right Edie?”
“R-right.” Edelgard managed as Byleth reached them, taking a hand from each of them with a bow one after the other.
“Lady Arnault, Your Highness, I’m blessed by both your presence.” Byleth said, finally standing.
“Oh Professor, we’re not in the castle, you needn’t worry about such formalities.” Edelgard said.
“Oh, let her indulge her rituals, Edie, you know she’s ever a creature of habit. With so little chivalry in this world, I’m sure we can abide our gallant knight.” Dorothea said, patting Byleth on the arm, seeming to squeeze her bicep.

Not in any position to protest, Hilda just nods. Marianne carefully begins unlacing her boots, her hand warm on the back of her leg as she braces her. The whole experience is surreal as Hilda fights to keep her eyes open against the pain of sitting upright.
Hazily, Hilda imagines this is what Marianne looks like when she prays, every day going to the altar and practicing her faith. The Goddess sees her like this, angelic, serene, and Hilda feels worshiped, even as it’s just her stocking being slid down her leg.
