Her name is nearly a sigh, coloured with affection and a relief as warm as the arms that envelop her the second the front door swings open. Emily returns the embrace gladly, pressing her nose to the crook of JJ’s neck for a long second, breathing in everything that is her.

In the wake of Will’s death, JJ has everyone in her corner… except her oldest friend. Despite their THC-laced Cheetos night and the impassioned confession “it gives me you,” Emily is more distant than ever.
Meanwhile, Emily is holding everyone at arm’s length… especially the woman she loves. Two decades of suppressed feelings take a backseat to dismantling BAUgate for good and giving JJ space to grieve.
In our take on Season 18 of Criminal Minds Evolution (that will lack so much plot at times because we want these two idiots to finally be together), will JJ and Emily find their way home to each other? Emily glances up momentarily, gritting her teeth at the obscenity unfolding before their eyes, before continuing on with what she’s doing. “As their boss, I’m choosing not to until they declare otherwise.”
Penelope huffs. She can’t begrudge Emily for taking the high road, she just has no intention of joining her on it yet. “I can’t believe they didn’t tell me."
“Yes,” Emily replies flatly, “Because you’re reacting so well to the news.”
