    He could see him though. His cheeks were round with baby fat, his eyes unshadowed, but he was unmistakably his Toshinori. Even before he'd gotten the weakly mumbled confirmation of the other's name he'd known. He could see Toshinori in the child's eyes, the deep blue gaze watery and afraid but so achingly familiar; he could feel it in his bones, where One for All sang and reached for the remnants of ashes that should have been there, but weren't.

    Or: Izuku has always been a dutiful son. All Might suddenly being younger than Eri isn't going to change that.

    Because field trips can't ever go right for Shouta's class, they're inevitably attacked by villains. Midoriya and All Might go down after the former is hit by one of their Quirks. Midoriya is the first to wake up, but when he does, he isn't exactly acting like... himself.

    Not entirely, at least.

    (At this point, Shouta was seriously weighing the pros and cons of just wrapping Midoriya and All Might in bubble wrap to keep them out of trouble.)

    “Oh no,” says Toshinori, and his voice cracks. His entire being cracks. Desperately, he turns again and goes to his knees, inspecting Gran Torino with trembling fingers. “Oh no, Torino-sensei, I’m so sorry, I’m—”

    “Eh, he was asking for it,” says the woman, and on the other side of Gran Torino, the dead woman from a year ago kneels too. Toshinori lifts his eyes to see hers focused on Torino’s face, and her visage is blessedly free of blood or bits of debris. “Still breathing, still has his good looks. Maybe a bit of a concussion, but I guess we’ll have to wait for Recovery Girl, huh?”

    “I think I need to see Recovery Girl too,” he squeaks.
