As he nudges his nose against her, her eyes flutter shut, focusing on her heaving breaths, deep and slow as she falls back into the bed and rises up again. She’ll give this up for a life with a husband and a series of days that stack up in front of each other, one falling after another like dominoes. A sliver of the moon when she used to hold it all in her hand. And this will be left for the Feasts, this relic of a life she loved. The world is narrowing to a single point, and Jessamine gasps.

Batman faces Anarky.
He fights against anarchy every day. Chaos and crime are his static enemies. This is different, he reminds himself, there is a fallible human being behind the mask. It does not help as it should. Gleaming gold taunts him, a personification of his city's most dreaded impulses.
There is chaos roaring around them. Unrepentant destruction of property, the wanton violence subsuming all those caught in it's insidious snare. It cannot be allowed to continue. Batman will not allow it to continue.
Batman makes a terrible mistake.

Love was not a matter of agreement, or even shared values. That is how it is with family: you can clash and argue and fight, but no one else can. No one else has the right to.
And even after a thousand disagreements and even more arguments, Bruce remained the man who raised them. The man who grew into the role of a father for every kid that had lived under this roof.
So if this alternative Bruce had no Robins, one could at least hope there was someone else waiting for him. Someone who thought of him beyond just Batman. It was only fair, for no Bruce should ever be alone. Even if Bruce himself most often did not realize so.
Bats are social creatures, after all.
Or
Absolute Batman lands in the Mainline universe and learns that maybe his mission doesn't need to be a lonely one.

Perhaps it should concern Dick that Tim thinks, as Jason once did, that he’s the only thing keeping Dick and Bruce from fighting when Alfred isn’t around. That the boy seems to think that his presence is the sole reason why they’re not at each other's throats whenever they’re around each other.
It should be a concern.
“You can’t hold his hand through everything, Nightwing,” Bruce tells him from where he’s sitting, facing away from the rest of the cave. It’s not quite a scolding-the tone is more vaguely annoyed and flat instead of chiding, but it makes Dick grit his teeth anyway. “He needs to learn to handle his own responsibilities.”
But the truth of the matter is that the kid is just plain right.
