Will Byers moves to Lenora Hills California and feels anxious about entering the school year mid semester. He dreads the thought of him and his new step sister getting relentlessly bullied. However, his fear is squashed by a scuffed combat boot, when he meets a spunky and practically fearless red head named Jen Crawford.
Slowly but surely, the two become inseparable as they both struggle with sexuality, past trauma, and feeling out of place in the sunny golden state. Meanwhile, El struggles with her own trauma and tries to befriend Jen’s arch nemesis.
As if their already turbulent lives couldn’t get any harder, shit hits the fan when Will’s best friend and long time crush, Mike Wheeler, comes to visit. Now Jen is flung into Will’s past trauma while reliving her own. Will their friendship become stronger or fall apart? Can Will confess his feelings to Mike? Can Mike and Jen get over their differences and jealousy of each other? Will they get to El in time and save Hawkins from across the country?
