"Now I remember why I had such a crush on you in the Akademiya."
Alhaitham was used to Kaveh's mouth sometimes blabbering something unexpected, but nothing could have prepared him for the sheer force of those words. They casually slipped off Kaveh's tongue and fell onto Alhatham's chest with such suffocating weight that all the air was instantly knocked off his lungs. He stared blankly and dumbly at the easygoing glow in Kaveh's eyes.
"No, you didn't," he replied, brushing the sentence off as a joke.
"Of course I did!" Kaveh exclaimed, lips curling around the words before he rolled his eyes. "Oh come on, you knew."

Summary
Like Haitham would even care, Kaveh almost says, before remembering that the whole point is making everyone think Al-Haitham would, in fact, care.
“Oh, he’ll show up, all right,” he says instead. “He’s going to show up so hard, you don’t even know. Because he cares. So much. About me.”
His abductors trade looks with each other.
“Why do you think he’s into him?” the first man whispers, perfectly audible.
The other shrugs. “Maybe the ex-Acting Grand Sage likes blondes?”
Or: After the truth of his living situation finally gets out to the rest of Sumeru, Kaveh knows he has only one way to protect his reputation: convince everyone that he and Al-Haitham are married.
Too bad he never realized the risk of being the former Acting Grand Sage’s wife.

Summary
"Even now, her junior sees right through her as she had all those years ago. Her perception has only strengthened with time. That is why Kaveh doesn’t bother to save face now. How could she? She’s lost all of it at this point; Al-Haitham knows every part of her. Knows that she was homeless, knows that she is in debt, knows her anger, her joy, and her irrationality. And despite all of that, with all of what makes Kaveh so difficult to be around, Al-Haitham still came to pick her up.
I love you, Kaveh wishes to say.
Instead, she says, “I got my period last night and the pain is really, really terrible this time around.”
