Summary
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Jack Abbot murmurs, pressing his lips to her forehead, before disappearing back down to the parking lot of her apartment complex. “I’ll be back in an hour. I’ll buzz three times when I’m back—I’m gonna leave my cell at home. Three times, alright? Three times, and only three times.”
Samira nods.
“Three times.”

Summary
He’s barely made it home when he gets the call. Just pulled into the driveway that’s more of a glorified parking spot, just turned off the car.
“Come back,” Dana says, voice clipped. “An ambulance exploded in the bay. I don’t know what’s going on, the fire department just got here. They’re working on Samira now. You gotta come right back.”

Summary
Samira Mohan knows she needs to get Jack Abbot through the last thirty minutes of their shift, and get him home. Ducking her head, she captures his gaze. Sees the way he’s gone pallid, almost gray, breathing hard. She has five minutes. Maybe ten. There’s a rescue dose of Ativan in her purse.

Summary
“I could kiss you senseless,” Jack says, the thought passing from his synapses to his tongue without a single filter activating to save him.
Samira sucks in a breath through her teeth, adjusting her weight onto her back foot, and Jack wonders for the first time tonight exactly how much she’s had to drink too. If she goes for it too hard and with too little coordination, she’s liable to fall into his lap. Oh no. What a shame.
“Don’t you dare. You’ll ruin my concentration.”
