Summary
Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes the senator of the unified planet of Melidaan. He plans to keep his head down and do what is best for his adopted planet. He expects an obscure career that no one will remember.
But Obi-Wan catches eyes, imaginations, and different agendas. Senator Kenobi shines too brightly to be ignored, and he finds himself thrust into a battle between Jedi and Sith.

Summary
“Hello, padawan Kenobi,” Master Dooku says, kneeling down and offering Obi-Wan a hand to shake.
Obi-Wan’s eyes follow him. He says nothing even as he lowers his head and takes Master Dooku’s hand. Master doesn’t let on, but Qui feels a little blip of intrigue at Obi-Wan’s size, or rather, his lack thereof.
“My name is Yan Dooku,” Master explains, “I am the master of your master. I sent your master an invitation for you and him to join the rest of our lineage for a meal. How does that sound to you?”
“No,” Obi-Wan says.
(Dooku organizes a dinner party for his lineage. Qui-Gon struggles with the the fallout of putting his youngest apprentice's welfare before his master's demands.)

Summary
Obi-Wan did not open his eyes, or move. He knew what Qui-Gon sounded like when he had let others shift his own opinions, strongly held though they may be. His Master was the maverick of the Jedi Order, but he was still part of the Order. He was a good - if unconventional - Jedi.
Obi-Wan knew that. He knew that Qui-Gon would not let people in the Galaxy suffer for the sake of his broken padawan.
But for one miserable moment, Obi-Wan let himself be selfish, and thought of how desperately he didn’t want his Master to leave.Or: In the months after Melida/Daan, Qui-Gon must leave for a mission. Mace stays with Obi-Wan in the meantime.

Master Dooku is gesturing at Qui asking why the remains of some long-perished vermin is parked in the middle of the caf table, but Qui cannot explain through gestures alone that this is a creative hobby, not a red flag.
“A windchime,” Xana says tightly.
Obi-Wan peers at the table for a long time.
“Out of those?” he asks, pointing at the bones.
(Xanatos comes home and Qui-Gon ends up with two padawans at the same time at wildly different stages of life. The lineage comes together to try to help both get settled, and of course it can't be straightforward.)
