In the aftermath of 2026 trials Klavier is doing fine. He just needs to be left alone for some time, and the world seems eager to oblige. All, but for Apollo Justice, who for some unfathomable reason decides to hang on.

And the thing is, once again: the rivalry, the tenuous friendship, the deal Akechi keeps referring to as if it’s a blood oath, it’s funny, just a bit. It’s funny to see Yoshizawa gasp as Goro’s pupils narrow and his movements become feral. It’s funny watching him switch through personalities and eavesdrop on Akira’s conversations. It’s funny seeing Akechi try and coerce him into an allyship as if he, Joker, should be afraid of him, distrust him. It’s a broken-up confusing world, and they are a broken-up confusing pair, so it’s funny, listening to the promises of happiness: even in this perfect reality it doesn’t seem like anything got better for him, for them. So even the whole Maruki spiel is funny.
But more than that: it’s fun.
