Don’t get her wrong, Yelena is still very much a deadly assassin. She’s just a deadly assassin with a day-job. She needs to maintain a living someway in this ridiculously expensive city. Being a boxing gym trainer’s not that bad, sure it’s a little boring and repetitive but it lets her stay in shape and it pays the bills. But lately Yelena has becoming increasingly distracted by a certain tall, archery-obsessed gym member who has no idea how to use the speedbag… moron.
And Kate? Kate’s just happy to be there.

“This is what I imagine,” Kate breathes out, unable to contain her thoughts for much longer, her hands tightening their grip in messy blonde hair.
“What?” Yelena pants out.
“Every time we argue and your eyes get a little darker, this is what I imagine us doing.”
Kate can feel Yelena smile against her. And a second later Yelena looks up at Kate from her position, and sure enough, that infuriating smirk is there. “Why do you think I keep picking fights with you?”

“Yeah, unless I don’t finish my degree.” It’s a grumpy little mumble, barely meant for Yelena, but she responds to it nevertheless.
“What do you mean?“ she demands. “You only have a small amount of time left! Why would you stop now?”
“I don’t know,” Kate murmurs, and Yelena is bewildered to hear a faint echo in her own emptiness, coming from nearly six thousand kilometers away. “I just don’t really know what to do now, I guess. Clint says I’m the new Hawkeye, but that’s not official or anything. And even when it is, it’s going to be a lot of training. So I’m waiting to wait, or something, and — and I don’t know why I’m talking to you about this, actually.”
“Sometimes, it’s nice to just talk,” Yelena thinks and then says. “But I don’t think you should drop out of school, Kate Bishop. School is cool.”

“Kate Bishop!” The Russian lilt of Yelena’s accent was probably Kate’s favorite part of hearing her name come out of the beautiful woman’s mouth. “You’ve been gone all day. I’ve missed you!”
Kate’s heart only beat faster at Yelena’s heartfelt comment, even if she knew that she was most likely just teasing her. She only met Yelena a few weeks prior, but since then, she’d gotten a pretty good sense of the blonde’s personality; flirty, witty, and only slightly unsettling at times.
It was a wild ride, for sure, but she hadn’t ever looked forward to leaving and coming home as much as she did now that Yelena was around.

Coldness pressed between them when Yelena stepped away from her.
“You do not belong here. You will get yourself killed and that is not my problem if you die because you are stupid.”
Yelena turned and walked toward the door of Kate’s room, careless, like she had no qualms about a counter-attack; like nothing Kate could do would ever pose a threat to her.
