    Annabeth prefers to think of action potentials as the bane of her entire existence. She can’t control the way her neurons react to stimuli. That usually doesn’t bother her, of course. It’s just science.

    But when she runs into an old friend at her new job, one particular source of stimulus starts creating all sorts of voltage changes in her neurons, and before she knows it, she’s wrapped up in a mess far too big for her to get out of unscathed.

    She curls the gray streak in her hair around her finger, and Grover pats her knee. They share a look and she knows they’re thinking the same thing. For once, this shared thought doesn’t fill her chest with heavy dread, but bright hope instead.
    The ship lands with a soft thud just outside the borders of the no-weapons zone, on what Jason had said was the war games field. There was no obstacle, so the Romans must have cleared it for them, which is a good sign.
    Jason squares his shoulders at the door of the gangway, taking a deep breath. They’d decided that Jason would go first, negotiate peace if needed, then he would come and get the rest of them.
    The walkway descends toward the ground, and Jason walks tall down the steps.

    This is a very self-indulgent collection of oneshots about the Mark of Athena. I'm healing my intense, decade long disappointment at the HOO series.

    Percy, a young soloist with The New York City Ballet, had gotten used to his spot in the back of the room, content with his role in the fourth cast of the company's upcoming production of "The Sleeping Beauty." But when the principal male lead gets injured, he's given the chance to dance with Annabeth -- the company's star, recently back after a long leave of absence. He's got one chance to dance with her in rehearsal. As he takes his spot at the front of the room, he knows that this is not simply a rehearsal. It's an audition.

    The sudden retirement of Annabeth's ex-finacé had left one male principal spot open in the company, and Percy is determined to finally earn his promotion.

    “It was Percy,” she finally spills. “It's Percy, the father is Percy.” 
    Saying those words out loud makes Annabeth’s stomach growl. She feels nauseous, which she figures probably is not just psychological, all things considered. She has no idea what she’s going to do about this yet, but saying the word father actually makes it feel like a baby for the first time. She lifts her gaze to take in her friends’ stunned expressions, their matching o-shaped mouths and wide eyes.
    “Percy Jackson?” Piper gasps. “Percy your-best-fucking-friend Jackson?”

    annabeth and percy are just lifelong friends, really. they might also have a baby together...
