He said it like it was just a thing to know. Like how you had to peel bark away gently if you wanted to find the beetles underneath, or how the wind always made a hollow sound before rain. Summary
Noelle is a vampire. It's perfectly treatable - a few days under observation, a course of antivirals sent in from the big city, and she'll be her normal vegetarian self again. The only catch? If her mom finds out about this, she'll never see daylight again, vampire or not. If she wants to avoid the grounding of a lifetime, she'll have to resort to alternate methods of treatment.

Noelle was there, at the center of it all, so she only heard what it was like for everyone else in the days that followed. The smell of dust in the air. The way the shadows, cast by no light, started to squirm. The wave of nausea that rolled through the town, old wounds aching and scars unsealing themselves.
Then, the sound of the bunker door slamming shut.
