    Shen Yuan, a Qing Jing researcher with low cultivation and an unhealthy interest in the demonic entities that crawl out of the rift in the abyssal zone of the ocean, gets his hands on an amulet to allow him to personally travel down there to conduct his studies. It gives him an aquatic spiritual form, with fascinating traits to help him survive at the bottom of the sea.

    The problem is that he’s not only being allowed down there for his research. Twenty years ago, the levels of demonic energy emanating from the rift rose and haven’t fallen since. Cang Qiong monitors the coast, certain that there’s a powerful entity down there, lurking, biding its time. If possible, Shen Yuan is meant to find and report on that entity—but the chances of him actually stumbling across it are low enough to basically be zero, right?

    Or: There is a creature at the bottom of the ocean. It takes exception to having its territory crossed over.

    "Bro, you know how many words I wrote per day, and how many plants I created!” Shang Qinghua whines. "I can't remember them all, it's impossible."

    Shen Qingqiu narrows his eyes. "It was used with Wife #418.”

    "That doesn't narrow it down any further. I'm not going to be able to guess it, so stop punishing me and just tell me how the flower nerfed you."

    Shen Qingqiu grits his teeth. Obviously he wants to draw this out to punish Shang Qinghua, but it kinda looks more like he's punishing himself. There's a muscle flexing in his jaw, and if he puts any more pressure on his fan's guard, it's going to snap. Uh, actually, Shen Qingqiu kind of looks like he's in pain—

    “A false dragonhead is also called an obedient plant. It’s in the name—the flower forces you to do whatever you're told," Shen Qingqiu spits out.

    or: Shen Qingqiu runs afoul of one of Airplane's stupid wife-plot devices...just before a mission to Jinlan City.

    Shen Yuan’s smugness lasted up until Shen Qingqiu whisked him off to the Bamboo House, where Shen Yuan was meant to brew and serve his shizun his first pot of tea as official head disciple. Shen Qingqiu didn’t dump it on his head, thankfully, but he did give Shen Yuan a rather unnerving warning:

    “If you have the nerve to present qianyuan in the future, this master will make sure you regret it for the rest of your life.”

    Yikes! What the hell was someone supposed to say to that? Got it, I’ll make sure to control this completely uncontrollable fact of nature? Talk about unfair!

    Shen Yuan transmigrates into a cannon-fodder NPC in an omegaverse version of PIDW. He tries his best to make the most of it—with a few stumbling blocks along the way.

    Look, he doesn’t need to know all the ins and outs of omegaverse customs, right?

    Upon the cusp of the Immortal Alliance Conference, Yue Qingyuan invites Shen Qingqiu to attend a diplomatic meeting with him and Shen Qingqiu surprises them both by saying yes.
    He expects it to be a dry, droll experience, but it proves to be anything but as Shen Qingqiu finds that Yue Qingyuan makes for surprisingly fun company! Meanwhile, Yue Qingyuan discovers that night hunts do more to thaw Shen Qingqiu’s icy exterior than even the warmest of teas!
    Everyone has secrets, though...and regrets. If they are ever to walk together into a new, brighter future, Shen Qingqiu and Yue Qingyuan must first shake off the chains of their pasts—or else they might yet be dragged down into an abyss of their enemies’ making.

    Shen Qingqiu had always loved Yue Qingyuan as a character, a fondness that persisted after his transmigration. Even if in person the man could be a little… dull, sometimes.
    However, when they embark together on a series of outings, they discover sparks of unexpected chemistry. Turns out, doing literally anything but sit awkwardly over tea makes for much better relationship building! Who’d’ve thought?

    Shen Yuan was apparently, an average disciple.

    According to Ning Yingying and some older Shimei’s, everyone had been baffled when Shizun had made him a personal disciple. He was good enough to be an inner disciple but not the best by a long shot, and Shizun only took The Best. He didn’t get into any of the infighting senior disciples normally did for their Shizun’s favor because according to Ning Yingying

    “Shizun thinks Shen-Shixiong is a lazy brat, and Shixiong doesn’t care what anyone thinks ‘cause he’s always trying to get off the mountain to go hunt monsters like he’s some Bai Zhan Brute.” She had then assured Luo Binghe that he’d love Shen Yuan.

    Luo Binghe has a sinking feeling in his chest that perhaps, this is the most accurate thing his Shijie has ever said to him.
