    And he was so smug in his jumper and his boots, talking to her like she was some kid, like she’d touched the stovetop; well, Rose, I warned you. Well, Rose, you’ll just have to learn, won’t you?

    She scowled at his back. “Right then, I’m callin’ for reinforcements.”

    The Doctor didn’t react or respond, just threw a single glance at her to show he was listening as he hit more buttons. Then his head ducked, focused on piloting.

    “That means you, mate,” she said, braving the open air long enough to snap her fingers.

    The Doctor’s head came back up then.
