Bilbo's hobbit magic turns Smaug into a cat-sized dragon. So, they retake the mountain without killing him. And he stays small, because he can swim through even more gold (proportionally) -- except when Bilbo makes him huge to fight the orcs. It's basically a crack-fic, but it's cute and not written to the extremes of most crack-fics. Quick read, very cute.

Fili & Kili flee from a mob, while Dis is killed and Thorin defends. He loses an arm in the process. The boys are found by Gandalf, who takes them to Bilba, who cares for them for 10 years until they're reunited with Thorin. Gandalf still suggests the Quest. Bilba stills ends up being the Burglar. The BoFA still happens, but everyone lives. Maybe not quite as happily as we'd have wanted, though. Bittersweet.

Holly and Sirius find that the Veil puts them out in Middle Earth. They live with Beorn for several years. When the dwarves come through, Beorn requests they escort her to Laketown. Holly's involvement in Mirkwood, Laketown, and Erebor makes several things go differently (although much follows The Hobbit). Destroying the Arkentstone puts Holly in a "magically exhausted" healing sleep. Holly, Sirius, Gandalf, Kili, Bilbo, Legolas, and Tauriel all return to Beorn's for the winter.
