And when he draws away, Steve is laughing, like it’s genuinely funny. He’s got this light sheen of sweat over his skin, it’s glittering. His hair moves, he pushes it back with his hands as his hips sway in time with the rhythm like he’s commanding it and he moves like a siren; a creature who exists only to lure.
‘I’m everyone’s type,’ he tells Eddie, like he just knows it and pities Eddie for lying. ‘To fuck, at least.’

Steve sighs, like he’s trying to laugh but he can’t quite manage it. “I’m sorry, man,” he says too lightly, “gonna need you to drive for a bit. I know it’s not part of the plan, but hey.” He gets out a laugh now, but all it does is set Eddie’s teeth on edge. “Henderson said you’re good at—what’s it called, in your game? Improv?”
And Eddie hates it, hates how soft Steve’s voice is, hates how the conversation is so clearly a distraction, a last ditch attempt at protection from… he doesn’t know. He doesn’t want to know.

Perhaps Steve was ill. There was no reason for this sort of fuss – he hardly knew the guy, and Eddie hadn’t exactly been the most forthcoming when he had visited him in the hospital. He had quipped, sure, pain-hazed and slurring, had smirked and winked and thrust his arms about, but he hadn’t really talked. He’d deflected – classic, really – and Steve hadn’t meddled, hadn’t done anything about the sleepless bruises under his eyes or paper-thinness of his skin, or the way he had sat in his hospital bed coiled, ready to jump and run.
Because Steve didn’t know Eddie. And Eddie didn’t know Steve. Which was why he was surprised when, on a quiet, drizzly Tuesday morning at The Enigma Pig, the walkie-talkie on his hip crackled to life.
(In a moment of need, Eddie radios Steve for help.)

Both their heads snap over to where none other than Eddie Munson just declared himself as “the thing Steve has to do.”
“Hate to break it to you, Buckley, but you can’t set Steve up on a date ‘cause he’s already got plans… with me.”
Or, it starts with a drunken night and a plan that Steve can’t remember making, but Eddie sure does.

He doesn't know where this is coming from. His eyelids flutter as his gaze starts to shift, flicking across various points of the table in front of him but failing to ever actually bring anything into focus; he gulps, and it almost hurts. He tries to push through it, but the steady breaths he was taking at the table are gone now and instead they hitch and his legs are bowing beneath him like his knees can barely hold his weight. He keeps moving though, he doesn't want to stop.
He wants it to stop.

“I’ll just go and ask the others about the story,” he said hardly recognizing his own voice in his ears, to low for dandelion the womanizer as he had been called once to many, too quiet for Jeskier the wandering bard, yet it was his. It belonged to Julian. “Um, yeah I’ll just, I’ll see you around Geralt.”
