    The Hail Mary has been shot out into the depths of the infinite void of space to search for an answer that may not even be there.     It was the lack of noise that told Courtland Gentry more than anything else that no one was actively trying to kill him at the moment. Had his assailant left him for dead? Didn’t matter, he needed to move no matter what additional pain it woke in his heavy body. Gathering his arms under him, he pushed up—

    There was something in his right fist. Taking one last look around the alley to verify no new threats were materializing—Christ, what city was he even in?—he pushed back to sit against the nearest cracked brick wall and uncurled his fingers.

    A crumpled yellow sticky note wrapped around a cheap plastic thumb drive lay in his palm.

    He unfurled the creased paper and found his own blocky handwriting staring up at him.

    "He goes to space. 37 loops and no matter what I do, he always goes to space."

    Then, in letters so heavily pressed into the paper the ballpoint had almost torn through it:

    "Save him. Save them both."
