Summary
Simon and Grace made it up and out of the blood ocean and into the hands of the COI.
Lets see how far they can go beyond the original pages of the story.
(A continuation of "virtual insanity", where Ryland Grace with fresh amnesia is plopped into the SM-13 and has to survive with our local doomed convict, Simon. Now, they're part of the COI and must deal with the fallout of that survival)

Summary
Grace kept running, using frantic energy he had never felt before. He was sure if he just ran long enough, he would escape.
Suddenly the trees ended and he was running through a meadow. The ground flattened and Grace ran faster, each breath burning in his throat as he chased his freedom.
Something hit his back. He fell to the ground, the shock of it bringing tears to his eyes.
Hands grabbed his arms, yanking them behind him. He twisted, crying out as he tried to get free, but he was no match for the weight pinning him down.
He twisted his head to look up as Simon pulled a needle out of his pocket, pulling the cap off with his teeth and spitting it to the side. His gaze was cold, determined.
“Please,” Grace begged. “Please, don’t do this Simon!”
“I’m sorry,” the man said. “I have to.”
He plunged the needle into Grace’s neck.
In other words, Simon learns that Grace is getting sent on the Hail Mary and he makes the most selfish decision possible: saving Grace himself.

Summary
