Summary
Dean woke up on his 42nd birthday the way he had been waking up nearly every day in the last few months: an armful of white fur and wet kisses across his cheeks. When Miracle first came home with them Dean had made sure to get her a big, cushy, memory foam dog bed so that she would be comfortable, but it had taken all of three nights for him to relent and let her sleep pressed against his side. He liked having her there, hell, he didn't even try and hide it. He was trying to hide things less now. He was trying to be better.
He was trying to be the man Cas had told him he was.

Summary
But the only words he can find are, “I didn’t—I didn’t know…,”
Tommy seems to see him getting lost, and says, “Know what? Know that your opening day playing for the other team might be overwhelming? Or that it would get crashed by your coworker? Or even that you might feel some kind of way about it?” he smiles, easy as anything, and teases kindly, “I don’t see how you could’ve known any of that,”
Buck lets out an exhale in a rush, ducking his head, helpless to stop the beginnings of a bashful smile from peeking through, and makes himself peer back up, “Yeah, I—I guess so,”
“Well I know so,” Tommy says, eyebrows doing a very pointed lift, before breaking out into that light grin again, “You couldn’t have, and neither could I. That’s kind of how life works,”

Summary
“Oh! You must be Mr. Diaz!” someone says from behind him, and Buck spins around clumsily, all long legs, to find a woman with a Miss Perez tag stuck to her blouse. She’s smiling politely, white teeth against red lips, and it takes just a second too long to process what she says.
...or, everyone thinks Buck is the other Mr. Diaz.

Summary
"I-Is it someone you know? The firefighter they're looking for?" She asks him, sniffing.
Eddie's steady hands freeze. He swallows as he cranes his neck to watch his teammates pulling pieces of rubble away from the pile with their bare hands.
Someone he knows.
Someone he knows?
Eddie has always known Evan Buckley better than his own skin.
He thinks he always will.
(Or, Buck is presumed dead. Eddie is not okay in the time leading up to the discovery that he's alive.)

Summary
“I’m not even in the neighborhood of mad,” he says, instead of vomiting any of the thousand feelings warring inside him. “But Buck. This would’ve—this took you hours.”
“I’m good at multitasking,” Buck says, and Eddie can practically hear him shrugging over the phone. “I did all the cooking after I put Chris to bed, and then I got up a little earlier to get the cleaning and laundry done. It was nothing.”
Eddie’s starting to suspect he’ll have to wait for Buck to come back to make him understand that, actually, it kind of was everything.
