Summary
Porsche has imagined meeting his soulmate plenty of times. He hadn't thought that it would involve being chased by men with knives and tied to a chair, but he's willing to let that go. What he isn't willing to do is let Kinn walk all over him.
The second that Kinn sees his own name on Porsche's body, he's all in. He wants Porsche within arm's reach, at his side, in his bed, all of it. But his soulmate is stubborn and independent to a fault.
(Or, during the boat scene in episode one, they realize that they're soulmates. They have a difference of opinions about how things should go.)

During the earthquake, Sheng Shaoyou is the one who gets a life-threatening injury. Hua Yong is as normal about it as you might expect, making the true reality of their power dynamics impossible to hide—least of all from Sheng Shaoyou.

After the earthquake when Sheng Shaoyou realized who Hua Yong really is, he didn't have any adjusting period like he had in the canon. Didn't have time to analyze, understand or forgive HY's lies and actions.
It's Sheng Shaoyou who got seriously hurt by the rebar instead of Hua Yong. Because of that life threatening injury HY gives SSY the permanent mark earlier, and whisks him away to Country P to recover.
The fic is about his struggles to come to terms about HY and with his new reality of his changing physiology.
Both the character of HY and SSY are very well written.

WOW.... just wow.... HY is so much more calculative and manipulative here.
I thought since he time-traveled that he would do things differently, maybe with less lies and schemes. But I should have know this is HY we are talking about. He perfects the manipulations and everything happening around SSY to a T.
HY is both scary and impressive. I feel so sorry for SSY, didn't even realize that he is tricked so thoroughly.
