He laughs at himself, a bit breathlessly. Rubs at his face. Tries to shake it off. “Jesus, I’m– my head’s gone all…” He gestures vaguely, fingers wiggling beside his temple. “Fizz.”
James eyes him now, properly. Frowning. “You good?”
“Yeah, yeah,” he says, brushing it off. “Just tired. Brain’s doing that, uh… y’know, like when you’re falling asleep and you think you’re falling, but– but it’s your words. Or–”
The world sways violently.
He blinks.
“Hey.” James leans in closer. Touches his leg. He barely feels it. “Hey– Rich?”
But he can’t answer. He doesn’t know why, but he can’t. His mouth is half-open, like there’s a sentence caught in it he can’t figure out how to push through-
