Summary
Sandrone has a PhD to finish, a thesis to defend, all for a project she has been working on for years. Sandrone also has a secret: she’s an omega. “Leaving so soon?” the voice comes from above you, dripping like honey and twice as sweet. It’s the assassin, standing above you, peering down at you. Her hair is short, tousled and this close you can see her eyes, analyzing you. They’re green, rimmed with a dark mascara that only sharpens her gaze on you. Predator’s eyes. There is blood splattered across her face and yet, she looks pleased, mouth curved up in a half smile.
You don’t think, you stand and sprint the other way. You know you’re going deeper into the forest, but what can you do? She’s killed that man. She seems like she’ll kill you.
“Oh good!” the woman calls out cheerfully from behind you. “I was hoping you’d run.”

Summary
She emerges like a nightmare taking form, tall, lithe. Her skin glows with an unearthly light unrelated to the swinging basement light above. Her eyes, bright, unnervingly green. Her form slowly becomes sharper, the shadows clinging to her body like dark silks. The sheer presence of her steals the breath from your lungs; it’s hard to breathe.
She takes a slow step forward, and her gaze sweeps over your circle with an undisguised amusement. You take a step back on instinct. She bends at the waist, a finger touching one of your chalk lines.
“Oh, little scholar,” she muses. “What have you done?”

“That was lifetimes ago,” Sabine said, voice smoothed over, composed. She turned to face Vyse with the slow precision of a viper hunting their prey. There was some cruel part of her that wanted Vyse to hurt, to feel just a fraction of how Sabine had felt when they’d ended. “I don’t flirt with ghosts behind steel masks. You’re not the same person. She had a name. She had a face.”
Vyse didn’t flinch. “She had you.”
The silence that followed was akin to the dread before a detonation. For the first time in many years, Sabine felt completely thrown off-kilter. Heat flushed to the surface of skin, sending her head spinning.
“I wasn’t the one who left,” Sabine said and by some miracle she managed to get the whole sentence out without a single crack in her voice.

Summary
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you slip your right hand fully off her knee and under the hem of her dress. When you look up, for permission, she just huffs impatiently and grips harder at the back of your neck. It is as close to encouraging as you will probably ever get from her.
“Thank you,” you find yourself murmuring which is just... stupid. You know she can hear you, but she either doesn’t care enough to make fun of you or she actually thinks this is something she should be thanked for and has taken it in stride. Either option seems plausible.
