Summary
“Buck's mind keeps wandering back to a night spent on Eddie’s couch, which feels like it happened a couple of lifetimes ago, when Eddie had stared at the ceiling and apologized for not being able to go into his room while he was in the coma, even though he was in the hospital most of the time.
He wonders if that’s how he felt, something trapping him inside dull walls and gray floors.
Because Buck can’t move.
Can’t leave.
But he’s not sure would be able to sit by Eddie’s bed while feeling as raw as he does right now, either.
He just knows he needs to stay because Eddie and Christopher are somewhere in there, and that means he can’t go.
It feels like he’s trapped in a nightmare. He’s been in it since he noticed Eddie’s car.
He’s not even sure how long he’s been there, all he knows is the sticky feeling the rain has left on his skin.”

Summary
Later, when people ask Eddie how he did it, he won’t have an answer.
He just knows he feels the metal give, and then he has his arms around Buck, kicking his way back up to the surface.
He doesn’t stop to consider the mechanics of what’s happening until after he drags them to the shore.
The problem is that Buck is still not breathing.

Buck drowns. -

Summary
“This is not the type of stuff that should be displaced and currently in Buck’s possession.
If he had it his way, he would never lay eyes on this and be forced to learn its content.
Because he’s currently holding the “Last Will and Testament of Edmundo Diaz.”
But that’s not really what has Buck cross-legged on the floor of his bedroom in the middle of the night, feeling like the gravitational pull of the Earth has changed.
It’s the piece of slightly crumpled notepad paper with it, scribbled with Eddie’s handwriting, with lines crossed and smudged letters.
That’s addressed to him.”
or
Eddie’s will has a letter attached to it. Buck finds a draft. -

Summary
The way Eddie keeps looking at Buck like he’s blowing things out of proportion is actually making everything worse.
Because, look, Buck knows he probably is.
Everyone is fine.
Eddie didn’t get hurt. The girl is predicted to have a full recovery, and the guy is in jail already.
And most importantly, no one got shot.
No lasting damage is going to come from that last call.
Not really.
But, fuck, Buck is still shaking.
He doesn’t shake like this after a call. Especially not after ones that ends in the best-case scenario
But all he can think about is how he was like this when he was wearing Eddie’s blood.
And that’s the real problem here.

Buck picks a fight after Eddie does something reckless at a call. -

Summary
The issue is that no house is good enough when the other option is Eddie and Christopher filling the house with the warmth he could never quite capture while they were in Texas.
But he can’t keep delaying it if Eddie managed to sell a whole house in the time that Buck’s been looking for an apartment.
Sure, it seems like Eddie did a great job making the place livable, enough to make the place appealing enough to get a few offers, but still, Buck needs to find a new place to live.
And it’s making him think about all those feelings he’s been ignoring since Eddie told him he was looking for houses in El Paso.
The level of hurt behind the decision to move in and let Eddie go without a fight.
Because he didn’t think he could win.
or
Buck really really doesn’t want to move out.

Summary
The morning after Buck and Eddie share a bed for the first time.
-----
“I liked it,” Eddie says, pulling his thumb back just a little to coast back over Buck’s bottom lip, spreading the spit to make it shiny. “I like it.”
Buck audibly swallows. “What?” he asks, but not like he didn’t hear. Like he wants it more than he thinks he’s allowed, and so he asks, to make sure Eddie is certain.
“I missed it,” Eddie continues. “Sharing a bed with someone. Not being alone.”

Summary
“I got you, I got you.” Eddie wraps his arms around Buck’s torso. “I got you, you’re okay, you’re okay.”
He lowers Buck on his back on the ground, presses two shaky fingers on the side of his cold neck and holds his own breath.
He gets no pulse.
Eddie chokes out an ugly sound and his heart clenches as he yells: “I’m starting CPR!”
