Summary
There was a pause. The bond stretched. They looked at each other with fire in their eyes, but did not ignite their weapons.
“No killing,” Kenobi eventually said, and Anakin scoffed. He barely killed people, only a few per mission. It usually wasn’t necessary, and he didn’t like to make a habit of it.
“No telling anyone who I am. No escalating this,” he countered, to which the Jedi nodded. “Not tonight,” he answered, like a promise.

OR: When Qui-Gon dies before being able to rescue Anakin and Shmi, the course of events in the galaxy changes. Some time after Shmi dies in slavery, Anakin gets found by Count Dooku, who raises him into a Sith. But a problem arises when Anakin suddenly develops a bond with the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, seemingly out of nowhere. Now Anakin is searching for justice and revenge in a war-ridden galaxy with a Jedi on his heels who just won't go away. Or die, for that matter.

Summary
This was likely the reason he was the only slave in the Temple, yet also why they treated him well. He was a special case, he was a valuable asset. They wanted to control him, and above all, they didn’t want to lose him. So he remained property. But the Jedi didn’t call him a slave—that was not socially accepted in the Inner Rim.
A young Anakin still believes he's a slave in the Jedi Temple. With the Clone Wars raging across the galaxy, there is no chance for anyone to tell him any different.

Summary
He refused to let his hands tremble when he removed his mask. The world shone brighter without it, and he blinked down at the ground.
“Skywalker,” he said, slowly meeting Obi-Wan's gaze. “Anakin Skywalker.”
Obi-Wan looked as if he'd seen a ghost. His complexion whitened, eyes blinking owlishly a few times. “Anakin?” he asked, as if he couldn’t believe it was him.
His name, spoken in his former Master's sharp accent, sounded like a symphony.

OR: After a year of Padawanship under Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Council decides that Anakin is too volatile. They reassign him to be re-evaluated for another role within the Order. Anakin believes that Obi-Wan agreed with this decision: he harbors his feelings of betrayal and hurt as the years go by. He eventually becomes a Temple Guard, believing he has now found his spot in life.
But then the Temple Guards are appointed to the Attack Battalions when the Clone Wars break out, and Anakin is forced to face his old Master again when he gets assigned to the 212th.

“Figures you’re a conspiracy theorist, Spidey.” Tony smirked when the kid startled, swiveling around. His shoulders loosened as he saw who had spoken.
“Figures you don’t know what a conspiracy theory is,” he replied brightly, none of the deliriousness from the other night apparent. He waved the thin, purple paper in his face. “This is journalism. Did you know ostriches can run up to 45 miles per hour? They’re like—” he floundered for the perfect word. “Bird demons!”

“No,” Remus murmured, head swimming. He sat frigidly by her form, arms hanging uselessly at his side. “No. I killed them. I killed them all. Please, no. Please.” He didn’t know who he was begging to. He’d never quite believed in God, rather putting his faith in science books.
But there was no science to this. There was no science to corpses rising from the dead and tearing his world apart. There was no science, no logic, no cure, no solution.
“Don’t,” he demanded when her eyes began to slip shut. He swallowed thickly, the tears on his face feeling as foreign as tearing through someone’s brain had once been. “Duw, na. No, no. Please.”
If there was no science, could there then be mercy?
But no God listened.
