Irina Rozanova missed Russia. The cold bit her skin with an addicting kind of pain, one that was dulled by cigarettes and sharpened again with hunger pains as her father, Andrei Rozanov, again lost his money to coke. Canada was fine. She was shipped down to the continent by CPS after they found out about her homelife. She was to live with her closest kin. Her Uncles, Shane and Ilya, were always kind and made sure there was food on the table after her dreaded Hockey practice with that bitch Ruby Pike. Irina was grateful, it was more than she could as for at home in Russia from her own father, but she wished she was happier.

They’d already been warned in advance that the process would be long.
Even beyond the almost year-long road to getting approved, there was no guarantee that they’d have the opportunity to foster any time soon, let alone find a child who they’d bond with enough to comfortably start the adoption process.
So when Shane feels his phone vibrating underneath him as he and Ilya sit curled up in the corner of the couch on a Saturday night barely a fortnight after their official paperwork had come through, he doesn’t think much of it at first.
Not until he pulls the device from his pocket and sees their case worker’s name shining up at him, sitting up immediately, back straight and breaths picking up as Ilya lets out a small indignant whine.
“Holy shit.”

After applying to be foster parents, Shane and Ilya are called to take an emergency placement on a short term-basis in order to keep two twin siblings together. However, what starts out as a temporary situation soon becomes a much larger fight when bonding with the kids uncovers a tragic secret hidden between them for years.
