Summary
“When we’re in there, Nance, I’m there for you, however you need me.” Nancy swallows, hard, at the conviction in Robin’s voice. Nods. “It wasn’t your fault. If it starts to feel hard, and I’m not there, remember this goofy face, right here,” Robin’s pointing, emphatically, at herself, “telling you, over and over again. It wasn’t your fault.”
Nancy takes a deep breath, expression soft, reaching up to rest her palm against Robin’s cheek. “I sure do like your goofy face.” She leans forward, pressing her mouth against Robin’s for a moment, relishing the flush that creeps up Robin’s neck. “That helps. You help.”
Robin gets that bashful, crooked smile, the one that makes Nancy’s heart ache, and grabs her hand, leading her to the gate. “All right Wheeler, it’s party time.”
OR

Summary
“When I’ve got you like this, it makes me want to do very, very bad things.” Nancy snarls, eyes burning into Robin’s, making her tremble in Nancy’s grip.
“That’s not very Family Video friendly…” Robin chokes out, trying to find her voice in all that heat, earning a disbelieving chuckle.
“You sexy idiot.” Nancy’s kissing her again, ardent, her tongue caressing Robin’s, and Robin wants her so badly her entire body hurts.
Suddenly, the front door bell dings, and, after a pause, Steve’s familiar voice booms into the silent emptiness of the store. “Yo, Buckley, you here?”
OR

Summary
“Nice shirt,” Nancy purrs. Robin swallows, hard, tearing her eyes away from Nancy’s to glance down at her dad’s ratty, nearly transparent 1970s Margaritaville t-shirt. She turns narrowed eyes back to Nancy, who is biting her lip, her expression a battle between hunger and barely-contained glee.
“You cannot make fun of my pajamas when you’re, like, wriggling on top of me, Wheeler.” Robin stammers, voice sandpaper rough, trying to remember if her mouth has always been this dry.
Nancy’s face softens, eyes laughing, balling the front of Robin’s shirt in her fist.
“Believe it or not,” Nancy’s voice is low, eyes trailing down Robin’s chest, “it’s really, really working for me.”
OR

Summary
"She goes to her window, opens it with a flourish.
“NANCY!” Across the street is an elated Robin perched on the passenger side window-frame, flinging her arms up in triumph as she once again reaches her leg across the car to kick the horn in a mortified Steve’s lap.
“Jesus Christ, I told you not to do that. I TOLD HER NOT TO DO THAT!” Steve’s yelling up at Nancy, pushing Robin’s ripped high-top off the wheel.
“GET SUITED UP, WHEELER! WE’RE GOING TUBING!” Robin’s grinning wide, wearing a beat-up Runaways ringer with one sleeve and the neck missing, revealing an impressive swath of shoulder, and a cheap pair of cherry red sunglasses. Nancy’s stomach flips over."
OR
It's been three days since Nancy and Robin went from not-so-plutonic buddies to nuts-about-each-other gal pals, and the whole gang's going river tubing! Nancy contemplates what it means to fight for happiness, over and over again.

Summary
"It’s been a long time since Nancy Wheeler had…a pal.
Not to be dismissive of smartass exes or they-grow-up-so-fast little buddies or whatever Jonathan has turned into after their drift, but they’re not…a pal, Nancy reasons. What does world saving and nearly dying for each other over and over mean you are to one another? Family, probably. Blood siblings, sure, bonded palm to palm beyond any choice you might have after the fact.
Robin, though. Robin, it turns out, is someone Nancy gets to keep choosing.
Robin, Nancy thinks with a weird sense of triumph blooming in her chest, Robin is Nancy’s pal."
OR
Nancy keeps Robin company at Family Video some warm night in June, and tries not to think about that electric feeling crackling inside her chest.
