Summary
No. Whatever it is, no. Eddie would like Buck to stop chasing whatever that thing is. Would like to grab the thought out of Buck’s concussed head and throw it out a window.
Buck’s face drops into something serious, eyes wide. “You called me baby.”
There it is. Out the window it did not go.
“No, I didn’t,” Eddie says.
Very smooth. Convincing.
“You did.” Buck points at him, floppy and triumphant. “At the— the thing. With the— you said it. You called me baby.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Eddie.” Buck is delighted. “I heard you. I was concussed, not deaf.”
“I didn’t call you baby,” Eddie scoffs. “I called you a baby. Because you got a bump on the head and were crying about it.”
“That’s not—” Buck starts.
“You were being a baby,” Eddie continues, standing now, because a moving target is harder to hit. “I’m gonna go tell the others you’re awake.”
“Eddie.”
“Rest your head, bud.”

Eddie calls Buck baby by accident.Bookmarked by HollowMachines

Summary
Space is kind of lonely.
It’s the only thing Buck really knows: being alone up here really fucking sucks.
Oh. And he knows his name. Buck. He’s going to have to have a strongly worded conversation with his parents if he ever gets out of here because who the hell names their kid Buck?
So yeah. He’s Buck and space sucks. The sum total of things he knows.
He’s figuring the rest out.
or, Buck's alone in space, and Eddie comes to find him

Summary
It was all just too much. He’d gotten maybe three hours of sleep in the last 48 hours, his whole body hurt, and he was just so overwhelmed that he couldn’t think straight.
“Good boy.”
A thumb brushed softly across his bottom lip and Buck just—
He closed his eyes, leaned forward, and sucked Eddie’s thumb gently into his mouth.

Summary
The cabin is beautiful, the wooden facade burnished orange in the early evening light, surrounded by tall pines, their striking shadows cutting across the rough hewn ground. It's isolated, the nearest cabin they passed on the road at least a twenty minute walk away, but it's not lonely. The silence is peaceful, the air clear and cool.
Eddie climbs the steps to the wrap around porch, turning to the view; more trees, thousands of them, clustering together, sentinels around the lake, far off in the distance, flat and mirrored. Buck appears beside him, carrying their bags. He's holding himself stiffly and when Eddie turns to look his face is flat, barely taking in the scenery, disappeared somewhere Eddie can't reach.
*
In the aftermath of New Mexico, Buck and Eddie go on holiday together when Chris decides he’d rather spend spring break with his friends. There’s a distance built up between them but five days alone just might force them to talk through their experiences and bring them closer together.
