    Jazz’s visor reset in surprise as he finally saw the sparkling. It was a small grey mechlet with red chevron and probably blue optics—hard to tell, they were white with static right now. His doorwings—doorwings!—drooped sadly as he hugged his knees and sobbed. A Praxian sparkling! Rusted pit, Praxus fell but five vorns ago and there were only three Praxians left!

    Bluestreak is lonely. It's hard, being one of the only Praxians left. His adoptive creators try their best to be with him, but Jazz and Prowl are busy running the war, and the Decepticons aren't making it any easier.

    But then, while recovering from some injuries, he gets a strange--and wonderful--message that another Praxian wants to exchange data-letters with him! Finally, he can have a steady friend and someone that will understand what it's like to have lost you entire home.

    And his new penpal totally isn't Thundercracker, who isn't also painfully lonely and feeling particularly doubtful about the Decepticon cause. No, no, it's not Thundercracker, because that would be ridiculous. Right?

    Prowl has been exiled from court and ordered to solve the mystery of the Rust Sea, which has been missing from the surface of Cybertron for longer than he's been alive.

    Jazz is drowning on dry land on the other side of the world.

    Once upon a time, before Jazz was born, the Rust Sea covered a swathe of Cybertron bigger than the territory of any city-state except Iacon. The sea had been more powerful than any engine besides the one at the heart of the planet itself, big enough to swallow a metrotitan in its depths, the birthplace of storms.

    Thing is, none of that was Jazz. He doesn’t remember those days, before he was himself, except in his dreams.

    And his dreams are terrifying.
