    Carlos won’t be back from Spain until the morning so Charles has the apartment to himself to wrap presents. There will be no awkward hiding in the bathroom with four rolls of wrapping paper and spools upon spools of ribbons and far too much tape this year. He just needs to buy said presents first.

    “Before you kiss me,” Charles says, tapping the tip of his index finger against his lips. Carlos pouts and leans back. “I have one more thing for you.”

    He can feel Carlos’ eyes on him as he stands and retrieves the small, flimsier wrapped package from behind the tree.

    “Another one?” Carlos asks, raising his eyebrows as he accepts the gift. “Cariño, you’ve already given me so much.”

    “It’s more something for both of us."

    Why would Nico be ducking into corners? Lewis remembered the two of them doing something similar before 2016, sneaking away whenever possible to eat ice cream. Lewis’ heart clenched at the memories. It had all been so simple back then, no Silver War, no championship to fight for, no Hamilton and Rosberg. Just Lewis and Nico, two boys with a common dream and years of shared history.

    But none of that explained why Nico was hiding now. Lewis hesitated before curiosity got the better of him, and he quickly donned his cap in an attempt to conceal his identity before following Nico into the corner.
