Summary
From the moment the Judge banged his gavel, Edgeworth was relentless. But it wasn’t his usual cunning, calculated cleverness—it was an aggressive, cruel hostility. He was purposefully aiming to humiliate, tearing down Phoenix’s arguments with a malignance that Phoenix hadn’t seen since the dark days of the Von Karma era.
“Really, Wright?” Edgeworth sneered across the courtroom. “Your performance today is utterly piteous. It is an embarrassment to the legal profession, let alone this court. Look at you, grasping at straws like a drowning amateur. I almost have to remind myself who you are, because watching you stumble through these elementary arguments, it is as if this is your very first trial against me.”
Phoenix flinched. Ouch. Edgeworth... where is this coming from? What did I do?

Edgeworth suddenly starts acting like the Demon Prosecutor again, and Phoenix knows something is wrong. He is determined to get to the bottom of it.

The Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death. Phoenix and Miles both try to get their brains fucked out to deal with it. They fail.
Told alongside song lyrics from Panic! at the Disco’s “Stall Me” and “Turn Off the Lights” because I had the revelation that it perfectly captures where each of them would be at this time and couldn’t get the idea out of my head.
Anyway, Ryden was real and so is Narumitsu.

"No, Wright. Absolutely not."
Miles scoffed, turning his back to Phoenix to slide a thick binder back into its slot on his bookshelf.
"Come on, Edgeworth! It’s a crucial angle for the case," Phoenix pleaded, leaning so far over the prosecutor’s desk that his tie dipped dangerously close to an open inkwell. He absentmindedly ignored the way Miles winced, his entire posture stiffening at the chaotic shifting of his perfectly stacked paperwork.
"The witness said they saw the handoff from the water,” Phoenix explained. “The only way to verify the line of sight is to get out there on a boat!”

Phoenix asks Miles to join him out on a boat for a case investigation. It's totally not a date and they both act totally normal about it.

His dorm room is small and cold and the potted plant Miss Fey had given him last week is wilting. He feels like he’s been struck by lightning. No, he doesn’t. His fucking cold medicine has been poisoned by a beam of sheer potential, and he can see the future by peering through the orange plastic bottom. That’s stupid.

"You know you don't have to do this," Phoenix muttered, leaning on the back of Miles's chair with a small espresso cup in one hand as the seamstress had gone to fetch some garments. "Even if my old suit isn't perfect, it'll do and I don't need..." he gestured at the deep green walls and wood paneling of the tailor's shop, "...all this."
With a reassuring hand placed overtop of Phoenix's own, Miles fixed him with a stare of utmost seriousness. "It's not a matter of what you 'need.' To live, no one really needs most trivial things in life like tailored suits or quality teas-"
"Or an outrageous amount of Steel Samurai merchandise?" Phoenix teased, grinning down at him.
"Hush, you, I have a point to make."

In preparation for Phoenix's return to the courtroom, Miles insists on a change in wardrobe.
