Summary
She remembers how he had loomed over everyone at the end of last summer, quick and fatal with his sword. Not her best friend, but a hurricane of a weapon the gods couldn’t hone. He's left in the aftermath, small and reeling from the weight of a soldier’s armour. Now, the ground is shaking beneath Annabeth, and so is the boy in her arms.
In which Percy and Annabeth let themselves be vulnerable for what is probably the last time.

Summary
St. Jude Thaddeus: Catholic patron saint of desperate situations, hopeless cases, and lost causes
Jud periodically has this dream where he’s in a car that’s hurtling down the highway, weaving in between cars and swerving at sharp angles. He’s speeding towards an inevitable fiery crash. The obvious solution is to stop and try and gain control of the vehicle, but there’s a truck barreling behind him and he’s keeping ahead of it by a hair. Slowing down at all means an instant, devastating impact.
In this dream, he tries every solution he can think of. If he stops, the truck hits him. If he keeps going, he hits the median. He dies either way. Each way of dying is equally agonizing. He bleeds out while the car burns around him or he breaks his neck and punctures a lung, laying paralyzed while his lungs fill with blood.
The irony is that he’s at peace. No matter his decision, the end is the same. It used to frustrate him, but now there’s a serenity of things being out of his hands.
He’d told Langstrom as much before the man went to Rome and his face screwed up. “That’s not what I meant by surrender, Jud,” he’d chided.Bookmarked by Gray13579

Summary
Jud probably should have seen this coming. Eve’s Apple is worth millions, after all. People will do a lot of unseemly things for that amount of money and beating a priest in church on the sabbath is far from the worst of them.

Summary
[“Oh fuck,” Cliff hears himself say out loud as his brain suggests—something. “Roz and Holl…oh, fuck.”
Pike goes still for a moment before shoving him, rough and unexpected enough that Cliff nearly overbalances. “Fuck off, Marlow,” Pike snarls, hauling him in by the sweater.
Cliff ignores it, staring past Pike’s shoulder. “Fucking Christ, fucking—are they—”
“Shut the fuck up, shut up, shut your fucking mouth, Marlow.”
“They’re—fuck, fuck, I didn’t mean to, I didn’t—” Cliff finds himself looking at Pike almost pleadingly, a weird helplessness buzzing in his fingertips and toes. “I didn’t kno—”
“You don’t know shit,” Pike says savagely, physically putting himself between Cliff and the space Hollander used to be. “Shut your fucking mouth, you don’t know anything.”]
OR,
Cliff Marlow's POV of The Hit and the aftermath, as he starts to put a few things together.

Summary
When the unsentimental financial imperative of the NHL sees Shane traded to the Boston Raiders, he and Ilya are thrown into closer extended proximity than ever before. As they adjust to life as teammates, they are forced to contend with the nature of their relationship -and must answer for themselves: is it even a relationship at all?
____Sliding down the wall, Shane hunched over his untied sneakers, shoved on hastily when Coach had called him in for a meeting after morning skate.
“Boston wanted you specifically. I’ve already spoken to their GM. You’re flying this evening or tomorrow morning: I’ll confirm once the paperwork clears.”
“Mom,” Shane managed.
“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.
