It’s happening more and more often these days.

He’s been furious, terrified, heartbroken; he’s let his hands grow so tainted that he hesitates to touch the world, let the black in his soul harm those closest to him, let it drive him to secrets and cruelties and forbidden spells in pursuit of a cure, of answers, of just one more day to try. Qifrey has ruined beautiful things and prevented new ones from being born, has rent himself into a shape that breaks through the world, has stolen each new moment of his life or paid for it in blood and memories. He has crafted a life of suffering and placed everything he cares about atop its precarious sill.
In the past month, Qifrey has had to fight back blooms and branches more times than in the entire year preceding it, and he has no idea why. -

“Not very watchful of you, hm?” Qifrey responds after a moment. Olruggio raises an eyebrow.
“Oh please,” Olly scoffs, gesturing to their home. “We’ve been grading each other’s homework for years. You know where my morals stand. I’m plenty watchful where it counts.”

After the events of Silver Eve, Qifrey makes the difficult decision to tell Olruggio and the girls his secret. His apprentices come up with many ways to keep him on edge and alert. Olruggio, too- although using slightly less… conventional methods.

Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. She orders Simon to bring Grace back to the surface, and thus begins Grace's ordeal in a starless universe. -

When he isn't being an errand-boy or stumbling upon strange trinkets in forest caves, Merlin slots into the small town life with ease. Between summer faire's, camping trips and hiking, Merlin almost forgets that no one in the town -except one -has left the towns perimeter.
Why has no one left? Why are his memories feeling hazier by the day? And why, oh why, is there a sword buried in a stone?
